Summit Awards Winners
The Summit Awards honors both ISVs who deliver software applications that maximize value for their customers as well as enterprises that maximize the value that they deliver to their internal software customers.
On behalf of SoftSummit and our panel of expert judges, we extend hearty congratulations to each of these winners for their outstanding work in software value management. Their work exemplifies the win-win situation that well-executed software value management delivers. A Summit Award brings the individuals and their companies the added recognition and honor they richly deserve.

Accelrys demonstrated great customer focus & business agility by being able to alter the length of try/buy evaluations and activating product features at any time during the customer’s buying cycle.
Accelrys—the world's leading scientific software company—develops and delivers innovative software applications and services that help solve critical R&D problems. Accelrys’ products span several disciplines, including genomics, proteomics, medicinal chemistry, inorganic chemistry, polymer science, and formulation design.
Xerox differentiates its copiers through value-added software. Every copier ships with the full software suite enabled and allows its customers to only pay for those features they want, by turning on/off functionality remotely using electronic licensing. As the customer’s requirements change they can easily purchase additional features.
Xerox provides the document industry's broadest portfolio of offerings. Digital systems include color and black-and-white printing and publishing systems, digital presses and "book factories," multifunction devices, laser and solid ink network printers, copiers and fax machines.
Elemental has gone out of its way to reduce the deployment burden normally experienced by its customers by working with existing deployment infrastructure (Tivoli, SMS, etc.), designing a system that is not dependent on environment variables, and is completely self updating in an automated manner. Pricing is value-based, where license fees are proportionate to the level of customer use, based on the number of agents and servers.
Elemental is a pioneer in software products that enable enterprises to satisfy compliance requirements and measurably improve their security with a unified, policy-based solution for centralized visibility and security control over dynamic computing environments.
MSC offers customers access to their entire product suite (which consists of hundreds of licensed features) under a token based licensing system they call "Masterkey". They have also developed a licensing strategy for distributed memory parallel applications that execute on a cluster of machines that allows each process to be priced based on the expected scalability of the solution's performance on multiple processors.
MSC Software provides computer aided engineering software for virtual product development. The suite of software consists of solutions that allow the engineer to validate the functional aspects, the structural integrity and the manufacturability of the design.
Freescale has continued to create new and innovative ways of maximizing the use of software licenses in their enterprise. One strategic and highly successful mission is their strategy of modifying how its employees access and use EDA software applications. By refining the tracking of software usage per project and modifying the billing process, Freescale gives project teams and individual employees the incentive to better utilize their software resources and ultimately modify the way they use software (i.e. closing an application license if it is not in use, use software during non-peak hours, etc.).
Freescale Semiconductor, Inc. engages in the design and manufacture of embedded semiconductors for the automotive, consumer, industrial, networking, and wireless markets worldwide. It operates through three primary segments: Transportation and Standard Products Group (TSPG), Networking and Computing Systems Group (NCSG), and Wireless and Mobile Solutions Group (WMSG).
HSBC gets high marks for its extensive use of conflict testing and resolution in its application management strategy. Every application in HSBC’s catalogue, which consists of over 10,000 of applications, has gone through conflict management testing to ensure that they are deployed without any problems.
